Liang ZHONG, PhD student

Liang has been a full-time Research Assistant in our lab since Aug. 2022. He obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Sichuang Agricultural Univerisity with a major in Aquaculture. He is a certified Vet in China and is specialized in fish health and diagnosis. He has sucessfully enrolled as a PhD student and currently working on the disease surveilence tecchniques and selective breeding projects.

Yuxuan ZHANG, PhD student

Yuxuan obtained her bachelor's degree in Biopharmaceuticals from Wuhan University and got her MSc with Merit in Synthetic Biology and Biotechnology from the University of Edinburgh. Yuxuan is particularly interested in Bioinformatics and her current research focuses on fish genomics and epigenics of the bacterial pathogens.

Ruoxi ZHU, PhD student

Ruoxi obtained her Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Medicine from Northwest A&F University in 2022. Her dissertation focuses on the development of fish vaccines against bacterial and parasitic disease using genetic and molecular biological methods.

Shengnan (Jenny) GAO, PhD student

Co-supervisor: RodmanGetchell (Cornell Uni.)

Shengnan obtained both her Bacholer and Master's degree in Aquaculture from Ocean University of China. She then joined CityU as a PhD student through the Interdisciplinary PhD Programme in Veterinary Medicine in colaboration with Cornell University (VM/P program). This program is open to outstanding graduate students who wish to conduct state-of-the-art basic and translational life sciences research and will be jointly supervised by a faculty advisor from CityUHK and a faculty advisor from Cornell University. Shengnan's research focuses on the effects of Nanoplatics on marine fish using -omics and molecular biological methods.

Xiangnan Liu, PhD student

Xiangnan holds a Master's degree from South China Agricultural University before joining CityU. Her research focuses primarily on pathogen detection and the establishment of efficient detection and potential treatment methods.

Lin YAN, PhD student

Lin obtained her bachelor's degree from Monash Universty. She has extensive experience in marine culture and she was the vice general manager of Bluegen aquaculture company before joining CityU. She is currently working on her Master's thesis on Vibrio epidemiology in Hong Kong marine waters in our lab. Lin is currently a PhD student working on the selective breeding and genomics of the economically important fishes with a particular research interest in the endangered species.

Yuanwei GENG, MS student

Yuanwei graduated from Qingdao Agricultural University, and he is currently working on an M.S. project using the genetic knockout method to study the bacterial virulence of freshwater fish pathogen Flavobacterium columnare.

Lab Alumni

Guangsheng LIANG, MSc student (2025)

Guangsheng is a visiting student from South China Agricultural University, and he is working on AI-based, computer vision-aided disease recognization for Smart Aquaculture. He is good at programming and bring a lot of values to this trans-disciplinary project.

SUEN Wing Hay, BVM student (2025)

Wing Hay is a year five undergraduate student from the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) programme. She is currently working on the final year project entitled "Artificial Intelligence–Based Identification of Common Ornamental Fish Species in Hong Kong". Welcome Wing Hay!

Yiming WANG and Ling SUN, MSc students (2023)

Yiming and Ling were an MSc student from the Public Health program. They were working together on the group project entittled "Surveillance of The Bacillus cereus Isolated from Marine Parks in Hong Kong".
